In case you missed class today, check out the day's announcements that
are posted on the course web page. I want everyone to start thinking
about their course project
You should turn in a (roughly) one-page project proposal on March 9.
I expect that most projects will involve implementing an algorithm
or two, and performing some computational experiments with these
algorithms. In your proposal, I want you to address three things.
First, what is the purpose of your investigation. What are you
trying to find out? What are your hypotheses, if any? Second,
what algorithms (or variants) will you implement? Third, what
is the design of your experiments. What data sets will you use?
What will you vary? What will you measure?
Feel free to come see me during office hours if you want to
discuss some ideas before you write your proposal. Also, I'll
start a web page listing some possible project ideas.
Mark
